Походження назви міста Кривого Рогу

Згідно легенді, перше поселення (зимівник) у цій місцевості заснував кривий (без одного ока) козак Ріг. Можливо, основою для створення легенди послужило існування реальної особи - козака Івана Рога, який в 60 - 70 роки ХVII в. вибирався кошовим отаманом Запорізької Січі.

У документах Запорізького Коша урочище Кривий Ріг значилося ще до того, як виникло постійне поселення під цією назвою. Це була місцевість, де слиття річок Саксагані і Інгульця створювало довгий кривий мис, або "ріг".
